There are great Americans that have lost their lives for publicly voicing their opinions about controversial issues like this. You took a stand. I enjoyed you candor about the subject. You were able to take the subject and come to a view point based not only on your own opinion but using current research data, compile a case to support your choice.

George: In your personal experience, are more kids smoking now because marijuana has been decriminalized? I agree that this new law will allow police to focus on more serious crime, I just hope it doesn’t lead more kids to smoke. Great job! Did you and Hector debate the issue?

I am not sure decriminalizing marijuana is a good idea because more people will be inclined to smoke and purchase the drug. If the United States keeps on buying drugs, then when is the war on drugs in Mexico going to end?

Some good points in your commentary. This question brings up some interesting issues about states’ rights as MA, CA, and others move towards decriminalization while federal law remains stagnant.Perhaps you and Hector should debate on a Zumix Radio program.Well done.

First, I would like to thank you all for you opinions. Hector and I will soon debate this subject. Madeleine, kids were still smoking it before but at a bigger risk and now that the risk has been lowered, more kids will be smoking it but I think it is okay. Im not sure when the war on drugs will end.

Well what I think is that the harm has already been done. Already there are kids that will do anything to get their hands on some pot. The question now is how to prevent other kids from that fate. I know for a fact that it is within human nature to break the boundary and anything out of the boundary is more tempting to do than things that are within the boundary. I don’t actually care if they legalize marijuana or not, I just hope that after 20 years, we don’t get left with a world that is dependent on pot.

I just appreciate being in a state that refuses to waste pubic money and police on a non-criminal issue. More room in the jails for those who shoot people.We can help prevent kids from smoking pot by education them and talking openly about drugs.Ballot Q #2 was not advocating for marijuana legalization, it was advocating for decriminalization.Great article George. Work on your “newscasting” if that’s how you want to do your podcast.

When I said ‘dependent’ I never meant addicted to pot, I meant like coffee. Caffeine is a legal drug, every morning millions of people need a cup of coffee to wake them up for work. You can say that its not bad but I don’t think its good either. If you take that coffee away, you’re left with these people that can’t wake their body up which isn’t normal for a healthy person.
So you sorta get my point

Some people make the argument that ALL drugs should be legalized as a way to put the illegal drug cartels out of business overnight and regulate illicit drugs the way legal drugs like tobacco and alcohol are regulated. They argue that this would bring lower prices and better quality for drug users and stop all the drug gangs and murderous cartels. The example people point to is Amsterdam, where one can go to drug cafes and order LSD tea and hash brownies or whatever. But I hear Amsterdam has HUGE levels of drug addicts. So do you think legalizing marijuana should end there? Or should it be the first step in a larger loosening up of the laws on drugs??? Thoughts?
